Johor Bahru, often abbreviated as JB, is the capital city of the state of Johor <\/a>in Malaysia<\/a>. The name is derived from the Arabic honorific title “Johor”, meaning “jewel”, and the Malay word “Bahru”, which translates to “new”. Hence, Johor Bahru can be interpreted as the “New Jewel” of Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located at the southern <\/a>tip of Peninsular Malaysia<\/a>, Johor Bahru shares its southern border with Singapore, separated by the narrow Straits of Johor. To its north and west, it is bordered by other districts within the state of Johor. Johor Bahru’s origins trace back to the 19th century when it was established by Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim as the administrative center of the Sultanate of Johor. Following Malaysia’s independence in 1957, Johor Bahru continued to grow and was granted city status in 1994.
